How to Set Up SliceWP Affiliate Plugin the Right Way

SliceWP is a lean affiliate plugin positioned between the complexity of AffiliateWP and the basics of running a program manually. The free version is genuinely functional for simple programs; Pro accesss the features most programs need within 6 months of launching.

What SliceWP Covers in Free

The free version handles: affiliate registration and approval, referral link generation, click and conversion tracking, commission recording, and a basic affiliate dashboard. WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads integrations are included in free – affiliates earn commissions on completed orders tracked through their referral links.

Step 1: Basic Configuration

Go to SliceWP -> Settings -> General. Configure:

  • Default commission rate – percentage or flat amount applied to all affiliates
  • Cookie duration – how many days after clicking the referral link a conversion is attributed to the affiliate (30 days is typical)
  • Allow affiliate registration – whether anyone can apply or by invitation only
  • Require admin approval – recommended for keeping your affiliate base quality-controlled

Step 2: Enable Your Integration

Go to SliceWP -> Settings -> Integrations. Enable the WooCommerce integration (or EDD, or both). After enabling, SliceWP hooks into completed order events and records commissions automatically.

WooCommerce-specific setting: configure which order statuses trigger commission recording. Default is “completed” – if your store uses “processing” as the final status, update this setting to avoid commissions never recording.

Step 3: Per-Affiliate Commission Rates

To set a different commission rate for a specific affiliate, go to SliceWP -> Affiliates -> Edit [affiliate]. Set a custom commission rate that overrides the global default. This is useful for top performers or partners with negotiated rates.

Step 4: Coupon Tracking (Pro)

SliceWP Pro includes coupon-based tracking – when a WooCommerce coupon code is associated with an affiliate, orders using that coupon code earn the affiliate a commission even without a referral link. This is valuable for influencer programs where affiliates share a discount code rather than a tracking link.

Set up in SliceWP -> Settings -> Integrations -> WooCommerce Coupon Tracking. Create a WooCommerce coupon, then assign it to an affiliate in SliceWP.

Step 5: Payouts

SliceWP Pro handles PayPal payouts directly from the admin. Go to SliceWP -> Payouts -> Create Payout. Select affiliates and commissions to include, choose PayPal, and process. SliceWP integrates with PayPal Payouts API to mass-transfer funds.

Set a minimum payout threshold in settings – most programs set $50 to avoid processing costs on small amounts. Configure a regular payout schedule (monthly is standard) and communicate it clearly to affiliates.
