Why WP Social Ninja Shows Wrong Review Count on Google

You display Google reviews with WP Social Ninja. Plugin shows 45 reviews. Google shows 38 reviews. That is frustrating because numbers do not match.

A common issue is that Google Places API returns different data than Google Maps. WP Social Ninja fetches from API. API may exclude reviews without text. Google Maps shows all reviews. Mismatch happens.

This is not WP Social Ninja being bad. Google APIs have different data.

Why Review Counts Differ

WP Social Ninja uses Google Places API. This API returns only reviews with text content. Star-only reviews (no text) are excluded. Google Maps website shows all reviews including star-only. Counts differ. API also caches reviews. New reviews may not appear immediately.

This is not WP Social Ninja being broken. Google API limits are the cause.

The Most Common Review Count Mismatches

  • Star-only reviews (no text) excluded from API
  • API caching (new reviews not showing)
  • Reviews from different Google accounts (not all counted)
  • API rate limiting (partial data returned)
  • Reviews marked as spam excluded from API

API data is subset of total reviews.

How to Fix Review Count Mismatch

  1. Go to WP Social Ninja → Reviews → Settings
  2. Enable “Include star-only reviews” if available
  3. Clear review cache (force fresh fetch)
  4. Increase cache expiry to 6 hours (not days)
  5. Check Google Places API documentation for limits
  6. Accept that API count may not match Google Maps

Some mismatch is normal. Google controls the API.

How to Display Accurate Review Count

Instead of displaying count from API, use manual count. In plugin settings, override review count. Enter correct number from Google Maps. Plugin will display your manual count while fetching actual reviews.

Manual override guarantees accuracy.

Alternative: Use Google Reviews Widget Instead

Google Reviews Widget may have different API handling. Some plugins fetch from Google Maps directly, not Places API. Counts match better.

Test different plugins to find best match.

People Also Ask About Review Count Mismatch

Why does my Google review count show different numbers?

Should I stop using WP Social Ninja?

No. Manual override fixes count. Reviews themselves are accurate.

All Google API-based plugins have same limits. Manual override works for any.

Final Thoughts

If WP Social Ninja shows wrong review count, manually override count in settings. API limits cause mismatch. Your displayed count will match Google Maps.
